48 Years—This Old Guitar No. 4

1969—I’ve Got Some Good News For You

In my historic, personal timeline—this walk through my life via some of my musical creations—a year (or so) has now passed since I wrote the last song I posted—Change of Heart. Though listed as song No. 3 in my blog posting schedule, Change of Heart was actually the eighth song I had written since having received my first guitar on my 14th birthday in 1965. By now I had shed myself of the Sears Silvertone, worked over two other guitars (one a twelve string and the names/brands of both now escape me) and had purchased a beautiful, red, Gibson Jumbo (J-35 I think). Oh my how I loved that instrument! It served me well through many, many years. I wish I had a picture of it.

Anyway, this next song, the eleventh in my overall song-production story—I’ve Got Some Good News For You—marks a breakthrough in my songwriting growth (at least in my own feeble mind anyway). In 1969 after all, we were on the cusp of the Jesus Movement. And I was—for better or worse—a Jesus Freak. Not a freaky, hairy, wild kind of a guy by any means, but a “freak” in terms of my passion for Jesus. Oh that youthful zeal!
