The Bible teaches us that vision is critical. Without it, God says, “the people perish.” Another version of Scripture tells us that without vision, “the people cast off restraint.” We certainly have, haven’t we?

In the early colonial decades of America, we find two “visions” emerging. One is a vision of wealth and conquest. The other is a vision of a fresh expression of Christian civilization. John Winthrop, the Puritans, and the Pilgrims before them, established beachheads for the latter.
