After much deliberation, and many prayers following the appeal made by Benjamin Franklin, our U.S. Constitution took shape and was approved by delegates at the Constitutional Convention in the summer of 1787.

However, despite the brilliance of the document, many felt that something very important was missing. Several states refused to approve it unless they received a commitment that a Bill of Rights be added. I consider them our First Principles.
