NightWatch Podcast EPISODE 49: BUNGLED CHANCES PART 9 – CITY OF GOD: 8 MIN.

CITY OF GOD

The seven verses of Scripture below are pulled from the 1599 GENEVA Bible, which is considered to be the Bible of the Colonial Puritan Pastors:

1 Psalm 46:1 Yet there is a River, whose stream shall make glad the City of God…
2 Psalm 48:1 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the City of our God, even upon his holy Mountain.
3 Isaiah 26:1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah, We have a strong city: salvation shall God set for walls and bulwarks.
4 Hebrews 1:10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
5 Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better, that is an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
6 Hebrews 13:14 For here have we no continuing city: but we seek one to come.
7 Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city new Jerusalem come down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride trimmed for her husband.

Biblically speaking, The City of God is King David’s “City on a Hill,” also spoken of as Mount Zion. Historically, it was the highest point in Jerusalem and the place where the glory of God came and rested. People from that region—and not only the Jews—came to the City on a Hill to experience the glory and presence of God.

Sometime in the early 400’s, Christian St. Augustine wrote and published a collection of books titled The City of God. It is considered one of the masterpieces of Western Culture.

Those of us in the “Cutting Edge” Shepherding Movement were likewise pursuing the reign and rule of God and His glory in what we called The City of God.
