In a few short years, our American republic will celebrate her Sestercentennial. That’s 250 years by the way. On July 4th, 1976, my wife, Sally, and I, along with two friends, made our way to the National Mall in Washington, DC.

We parked ourselves on a blanket on the grass and witnessed and celebrated America’s Bicentennial. We enjoyed the most splendid display of fireworks I have ever seen. It was quite a moment for me, a twenty-four-year-old man in the early years of adulthood, with great hope in God, but a long, long way yet to go before I could come to understand what a treasure I possessed having been born an American.
