NightWatch Podcast EPISODE 44: BUNGLED CHANCES PART 4 – TWO BACKSTORIES: 4 MIN.

TWO BOYS READING

I have said in several podcasts (this one included) that in my early years of walking with Jesus, I was caught up in the passion of a “Cutting Edge” Christian movement. It was a movement that emerged FROM the “Charismatic Renewal,” but it was, in no way, THE “Charismatic Renewal” itself. So please don’t get these two “movements” confused. They are two different things.

A simple, brief scanning of history reveals that history does indeed, repeat itself. Consider the Johnstown Dam failure in 1889 Pennsylvania. Concerns of safety were expressed, investigated and in the end, ignored. The Dam failed and 2,200 people lost their lives. Thirty-nine years later, in San Clarita California, the St. Francis Dam, built in 1924-27 following a poorly run geological study, collapsed on March 12, 1828 and took the lives of around 400 souls.

Another example of history repeating itself is Adolph Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 and his failure to learn from the miscalculations of Napoleon Bonaparte who lost his battle with Russia, like Hitler, due to the extreme winter weather of Russia/the Soviet Union.

My example of history repeating itself compares the arrogance of the Puritan leaders in late 17th century Boston, with the leaders (primarily the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tiers) of the “Shepherding Movement” in the mid 1970-s through the mid-1980’s.
